Mountain Patrol

13th August 2009, BEAPCA screened a movie called Mountain Petrol. It is based on a true story concerning how Tibetans people struggle to save the endangered antelope and live in a harsh condition.

From the film, it mentioned a Chinese word “Kekexili” which means beautiful mountains, beautiful girls (yet, I still don’t understand). I also learned their culture; the Tibetan people always point the knife towards them when they eat. Indeed, they are very adept at singing and dancing.

From my point of view, the main environmental crises are desertification, land degradation, water shortage and severe air pollution (E.g. burning car produces poisonous gasses). These threaten people health and reduce foods for the people.

Despite the environmental issues, they are forced to live with the deteriorating of desires. Due to the economic crisis, they barely can effort cars, medical treatment, car fuel, foods and drink. In order to survive, they pitifully eat raw food and disobey the law. They also have to face the natural hazards such as sandstorms and quicksand. It is very miserable to see the pitiless quicksand gobble the people.

A policy was created to save the natural reserve by imprisoning illegal hunting activities on Antelopes although they have to risk their lives in the fight against these callous poachers. However, the horrible reality of their situation forced them to disobey their law. They sell pelts for their own benefits.

In some other way, after I observed that movie, I felt very please on living here in Brunei Darussalam, a country blessed with prosperity and peacefulness as the major products are oil and gas. We should be thankful of living in a green environment, a secured natural habitat and a serene environment. We should appreciate our environment more before it is too late.
