Proboscis Monkey Trip

I went on a trip to Brunei River with two lecturers and some UBD students on 09th August 2009, (Sunday) for the first trip of my course, BEAPCA. We met up at Portview in Bandar Seri Begawan and started the journey on boat (named Roda Impian) around 8.00am. My intentions were to hear some interesting stories, to see Proboscis monkey and to gain some experience.

We passed by Damuan, Makam Diluba and Bunut. Along the trip, I saw dissatisfied environment; people have been polluting the river and quarries produce toxic gasses lead to air pollution. It was slightly different from what I was expected. But, I was pleased that I did not feed any types of mosquito. Addition, the weather was not very hot.

This trip gave me an opportunity to ask questions to the boat taxi driver, Mr. Zali and his assistance, to see proboscis monkey, Jong Batu, kingfisher, monitor lizard and more. I was very eager to see Mangrove snake at first but then I began to get anxious when Mr. Zali said it is a poisonous snake. I also learned how to do attendance and treasurer, new words such as Boiga dendrophila(scientific name for mangrove snake). I was very fortunate to hear a story which thrilled me the most, i.e. Anak Nakhoda Manis

Before we end the trip, we were invited to rest in a stunning house. I was very happy to see food on the table. Perhaps it was because I did not have breakfast that morning and I was starving!

In conclusion, I think the trip was successful. The trip ended around 10am. I was having fun and all my questions were answered. However, I was slightly disappointed because a student of BEAPCA was not able to attend.
